The current political climate concerning women's abortion rights motivated me to explore this area for my project. I crafted these guiding questions to serve as a framework for my research process:
- How might we make women’s healthcare be more accessible?
- How might we ensure women feel empowered and supported by others?
- How might we ensure user privacy and protection of data?
Process
COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS
I conducted industry research on prominent players in the women's healthcare industry and analogous sectors, in order to understand why they are successful and identify potential opportunities for improvement and innovation within the field of women's healthcare.
SWOT ANALYSIS
Using the insights gathered from my research, I identified the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats or risks linked with pursuing a digital product in this specific problem space.
USER RESEARCH INTERVIEWS
I conducted research interviews with five individuals to gain deep insights into their experiences and challenges related to women's healthcare.
Additionally, I explored the digital platforms they use in relation to healthcare, aiming to identify specific areas where I could make a meaningful impact and bring about positive changes.
KEY INSIGHTS
After synthesizing the user feedback, the key findings were as follows:
USER JOURNEY
I created a user journey map illustrating the process of a 21-year-old woman acquiring the contraceptive pill in order to identify potential areas where my app could be incorporated.

Design
LOW-FIDELITY
I created low-fidelity paper prototypes to easier facilitate usability testing with my classmates in person. The screens I created were centered around essential user flows that comprised the minimum viable product (MVP) of my idea.
MID-FIDELITY
From my paper prototypes, I moved into mid-fidelity versions of key screens and user flows for another round of usability testing before moving into high-fidelity prototyping.
VISUAL IDENTITY
I intentionally steered clear of overtly feminine themes to ensure a gender-neutral experience for all users, regardless of their gender identity. I accomplished this by incorporating earth tones that provide a sense of comfort and warmth. Additionally, I selected photographs that convey a feeling of intimacy and discretion, which are important values for the app.
